Community Closet Initiative

YMCA-Community-Closet-page-001-2The Community Closet, located inside The Cultural Centre (the old YMCA building), is an initiative to help those who cannot afford extra clothing, or those who just need more.

Katie Haggerty is the coordinator of the project and she thinks it’s a great way to help out the community.

“It’s a place that helps people but also allows people to help, even if they don’t have much. I have people that donate clothes back to us on a regular basis and you can see in their faces it makes them feel good to give back,” she says.

The Community Closet accepts clothing for all ages, footwear, and accessories. They also accept toys, baby needs, as well as small household items.

They recently launched an “Adopt – A – Hanger ” campaign. For any monetary donation given to The Closet, your name will be attached to a hanger in-store. Donations of $10 or more will be given a tax receipt.

Haggerty says, “This free program is for anyone and you shouldn’t be shy to come in.”
