Doors Open Fredericton Event to be Held September 21

CityHall2014303Fredericton’s annual “Doors Open” event will take place Sunday, September 21 from 1 – 4 pm with 19 buildings of historic and cultural interest opening their doors to the public for free guided and self-guided tours.

Doors Open participants will be able to visit local radio and community television studios, the convention centre, numerous municipal buildings, The Playhouse, Theatre New Brunswick, various buildings on the University of New Brunswick campus, and a variety of local churches.

New for this year, will be the Chef-guided tour of the kitchen at the Fredericton Convention Centre and the historic St. John The Evangelist (Stone) Church on Main Street.

The following buildings will be opening their doors. (Some locations have limited times, so be sure to check the schedule for full details.)

  • Fredericton Convention Centre, 670 Queen Street (Guided tours at 1, 2 and 3 pm)
  • Two Nations Crossing Fire Station and Firefighter Training Complex, 500 Two Nations Crossing (Guided tours at 1, 2 and 3 pm)
  • York Street Fire Station, 520 York Street
  • E. John Bliss Water Treatment Plant, 300 Waterloo Row (guided tours at 1, 2 and 3 pm)
  • City Hall Council Chamber, 397 Queen Street (guided tours as 2, 2:30, 3, and 3:30 pm)
  • The Fredericton Playhouse, 686 Queen Street (guided tours at 1, 2, 3, and 4 pm)
  • Theatre New Brunswick, 55 Whiting Road (guided tours every half hour 1 – 3:30pm)
  • Sir Howard Douglas Hall, UNB, 3 Bailey Drive
  • Brydone Jack Observatory, UNB, 55 Bailey Drive
  • Memorial Hall, UNB, 9 Bailey Drive
  • Provincial Archives, 23 Dineen Drive
  • St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 70 Main Street
  • Wilmot United Church, Corner of King & Carleton Streets
  • St. Paul’s United Church, 400 George Street
  • St. Dunstan’s Church, 120 Regent Street
  • St. Anne’s Chapel of Ease and Christ Church (Parish) Church
  • St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 2365 Woodstock Road
  • Bell Media Radio Stations, 206 Rookwood Avenue
  • Rogers TV, 377 York Street (tours every half hour 1 – 3:30pm)

Doors Open Canada was created by the Heritage Canada Foundation to provide people with the opportunity to visit buildings not regularly open to the public.  The buildings may be of architectural, cultural or historic interest to the community. They may be civic buildings, schools, places of worship, offices, inns, fire halls, etc.  Doors Open events are held annually all across Canada.
