Family Art Day at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery invites you and your family to come out every last Sunday of every month for their Family Art Day from 12:00 p.m. noon to 5:00 p.m.

This month’s will be held on Sunday, June 30th, 2019.

Admission is FREE to all programs to visitors of all ages.

There are guided tours at 1:00 p.m. for English tours and 2:00 p.m. for French Tours.

Please meet at the Welcome Desk beside the elevators.

Activities

Explore and create Traditional beading designs with Braelyn Cyr

Join Braelyn in examining traditional patterns found within indigenous beadwork and create your own original painted beadwork design on paper.

Braelyn Cyr is a children’s book author and illustrator. Cyr’s recently graduated from NBCCD’s aboriginal visual arts program and specialized in traditional wampum weaving.

Art Cart: Mini flag making with collage materials: cut, glue, and wave it around!

Canadian Friendship Mural

Draw and paint stories of friendship: create portraits, depict places, and show love for your community!

Use pencils, markers, and paint on paper to contribute to the mural and create pieces to take home with you.

This activity is part of a series of workshops to celebrate Voices of Harmony: the Art of the GSMS Global Minds Initiative. George Street Middle School created the first Canadian chapter of Global Minds, an organization that breaks down cultural and language barriers by bringing youth from diverse backgrounds together to combat isolation, exclusion, and racism.

The students’ works and stories are displayed in the Gallery’s Sobey Youth Art Space from May to August and visitors are invited to explore their own stories through artmaking!

Be inspired by Carl Beam: One Who is Brave-Hearted

Create your own layered images: maps, measurements, and magic! Use stickers, colour pencils and stencils on photocopies

Interactive mapping

Collect stickers and colour in your map while you discover Canada through the eyes of artists like Emily Carr, Kenojuak Ashevak, the Group of Seven, Jean-Paul Riopelle, and more great Canadian artists!

Free Presentation:

3:00- 3:30 pm (The Joseph and Fanny Oppenheimer Gallery)
Artist Presentation: Percy Sacobie

Join Percy for a talk in his exhibition Wolastoqiyik Storyteller.

Percy Sacobie is a skilled multidisciplinary artist of the St. Mary’s First Nation.

He creates images of deep personal meaning that are graphically moving, tied to his upbringing as well as local Indigenous stories and living history.
