The Fredericton Community Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help foster proactive learning and development as they believe that our adolescents should be prepared to become leaders in our community. It is because of this that they are proud to sponsor the work that the Kiwanis club has done with their Kiwanis Key Leader Camp!
The Kiwanis Club is an international organization founded in 1915 that believes in both empowering and aspiring youth in local communities. Their program, dubbed “The Kiwanis Key Leader Camp”, is a 3-day program launched from the various Kiwanis branches across the world and has served more than 26,000 student events across the US, Canada, and abroad since the program’s founding in 2005.
The Kiwanis Club of Fredericton, runs the Kiwanis Key Leader event at Camp Argonaut. Their goal, and the program’s goal, is to empower youth and build leadership by exploring new ideas, accomplishing exciting challenges, and building enduring friendships in a safe and supportive environment where all can have fun!
The event itself brought together 80 youth (ages 14-18) from all over the province, including 20 from the Fredericton region.
One of the main challenges of the Kiwanis Club of Fredericton was the sheer demand from parents and adolescents to expand their program. Thanks to a $2600 grant from the Fredericton Community Foundation, their dream of expanding the Key Leader Program has become a reality!
The affected youth were very happy about this change.
Nicola Tomczak said, “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to go to the Key Leader Camp. I’ve been really looking forward to this camp ever since I found out I would be attending. I’m very grateful I got this amazing opportunity as I learned so much and met so many people just like me. I’m looking forward to teaching others what I learned applying these skills to my life. Thanks again!”
Assistant Director Burt Greene also had some very positive feedback: “The Fredericton Community Foundation is a wonderful organization that we’ve been thankful they’ve supported us over the years. The students are very keen on the program, and have a lot of fun, and this could not be possible without your support. Thank you sincerely!”
