Fredericton’s longest-running, semi-monthly, poetry-and-more, reading series, odd sundays offers up a triple treat tomorrow with three featured readers. Tomorrow’s odd sundays event starts at 2 pm at Molly’s Coffee House, 554 Queen Street, and will feature Kris Bone (emerging master of short fiction), Robert Hawkes (poet and philosopher of the heart, local legend), and Robert Shiplett (poet and eccentric Métis raconteur). There will also be a book draw. About the Featured Readers Robert Shiplett: Born into a large multi-ethnic family in North Battleford, SK, G. Robert Shiplett, studied philosophy and psychology. Working in both Canada and the US, he has lectured as a sessional, interned as a clinical and hospital psychologist, developed Smalltalk software, and taught ESL and special-needs students. Now in pre-retirement unemployment, he is active as a poet, blogger, amateur astronomer, eccentric Métis raconteur and occasional Go player with more telescopes than guitars. Interested in phenomenology and science without certainties, Shiplett’s poems draw on flora, as well as historical events; his multilingual sources of poesis include French, German, Japanese, and Russian—especially in Japanese kanji and haiku. Robert blogs as rshifflet and rchifflet to respect his own ethnic nexus www.aule-browser.com eclectic-pencil.blogspot.ca

Robert Hawkes: Poet, editor, professor emeritus, Robert Hawkes has spent most of his adult life researching, teaching, writing, and editing. By dint of talent and effort, he has enriched The Fiddlehead, The Cormorant, and The Canadian Modern Language Journal / La Revue Canadienne des langues vivantes, as well as writing communities in ever widening circles—Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, and the world. Extensively anthologized, Hawkes’ publications include prose pieces on educational topics, a history of 19th century Queens County teachers, and several books of poetry published by Fiddlehead/ Goose Lane, Alive Press, The Caledonian, Wild East Publishing, Broken Jaw, and poppy press. Of Cranmer (2000, Broken Jaw), George Elliott Clarke has written: “an imaginative, first-person exploration … arrestingly vivid … hard-won and honed and impressive … this collection may be recommended for its almost stern, classics-minded authority.” Kris Bone: Winnipeg-born, Toronto-educated, and Fredericton-based writer and comedian, Kris Bone’s “Navigating Dead Ends” was longlisted for the 2014 CBC Canada Writes short story contest; he has been published in The Winnipeg Free Press, The Quilliad, and Scarborough Fair.
