Rehearsals are underway for Theatre New Brunswick’s (TNB) 2016 holiday production of The Snow Queen. Written by Hans Christian Andresen and adapted for the stage by TNB Artistic Director Thomas Morgan Jones, this epic adventure tale of cinematic size and scope is the perfect holiday show for children and adults alike.
“Hans Christian Andersen has given us a world rich with a wide array of characters, locations, and storylines, all in service of The Snow Queen’s theme: anything is possible if you believe,” said Jones. “As Gerda travels from her village into the wide world, we as an audience travel with her, with all her hopes and fears. In the end, we’re all rewarded for our courage and our belief that there can be hope in difficult situations and that the power of friendship and forgiveness really can change the world. What better story to bring to life at this time of year, and what a great inspiration to see on stage. The joy in the rehearsal hall is palpable, and we are so eager to share it with NB audiences!”
This production – the third for the company this season – will bring an international cast of creative talent together on the Fredericton Playhouse stage for four performances before touring to Saint John and Moncton.
TNB proudly welcomes the return of actors Michelle Polak (Marion Bridge) and Miriam Fernandes (A Sunday Affair) who will be joined by Eva Barrie, Andrew Broderick and Antoine Yard, each making their company debut in this production.
The Snow Queen also features the work of five incredibly talented, award-winning designers whose costumes and masks, musical compositions, set and light designs will help bring the story to life.
“Our designers are a team of the country’s strongest female artists,” said Jones. “Jung-Hye Kim’s minimalist set is like a shadow puppetry or pop-up book come to life; Michelle Ramsay’s lighting is sublime, making the worlds of this story transform as a moving painting; Nicky Phillips’ music awakens the child in us all; while Sherry Kinnear’s costumes are cinematic in their vision and detail. Audiences will have all of their senses delighted by these four exceptional collaborators.”
The Snow Queen opens Thursday December 15th, 2016 at the Fredericton Playhouse and runs through December 17th. Showtime is 7:30 pm with an additional Saturday matinee at 2 pm. Tickets are available at the Fredericton Playhouse box office or online at tnb.nb.ca. Ticket prices are $37 for adults and $15 for students.
