Trail named after City Councillor David Kelly

Dirt Road in AutumnWard 12 Councillor David Kelly has been lobbying for a path connection between the Rainsford Park area and Hanwell Road, and due to new developments his vision has become a reality. The city intends to name the path after the Councillor.

City traffic engineer Darren Charters said the city didn’t have the funding to undertake the expensive project until now. The connection will be built over a new sewer line, lowering cost and making the project possible despite low funding. This connection will create opportunity for residents living in the Rainsford Park area who have previously been disconnected to the city’s pedestrian and cycling transportation networks.

David Kelly was first elected to the city council in 1999 and served the council since. Kelly took a leave of absence in August 2014 after being glioblastoma multiforme, the most common type of primary malignant brain tumour. The City of Fredericton chose to honour Kelly by naming the connection for the Councillor after years of fighting for its creation.
