Fredericton District Soccer Association Selects New Executive Director

fdsa_logoThe Fredericton District Soccer Association (FDSA) is pleased to announce that Mr. Dennis van den Heuvel has assumed the role of Executive Director.

Mr. van den Heuvel, originally from Dundas, Ontario, is a graduate of Queen’s University where he was a member of the men’s Varsity Rugby program. Dennis has been an active participant in soccer programs from a young age, playing rep soccer up to age 14 then as a competitive player in the Ontario Youth Soccer League up to age 18. He continued as a Senior A & B player with Dundas United Soccer Club, and still enjoys getting around the pitch as a Senior B and Old Boys player in Fredericton.

He has worked in the insurance industry for the last decade and has been actively involved in the Fredericton curling community, having spent time as the President of the Fredericton Curling Club. Mr. van den Heuvel also served as an Executive Committee Member of the highly successful 2013 World Senior & Mixed Doubles Curling Championships.

“The FDSA are extremely fortunate to have some very talented and dedicated people in the organization,” said van den Heuvel. “ While there is no doubt I have enormous shoes to fill, I am really looking forward to the challenge and am excited to work with the Fredericton community to continue to grow the FDSA, shaping it into a leader amongst community sporting programs in our province.”

Mr. van den Heuvel takes over as Executive Director from Andrea Smith, who leaves after eight years of dedicated service. Smith’s strong organizational abilities were an asset to FDSA and will be welcomed in her new position as Office/Project Manager at MacMillan Lawrence & Lawrence Chartered Professional Accounting firm.

“Andrea has been an influential part of the FDSA community family and we are sad to see her go. Given her passion for the organization, I have no doubt that she will continue to be involved in our soccer community.” commented FDSA President, Dominic Blakely.

“We were pleased with all of the outstanding candidates our search for a new ED produced and feel that Dennis’s combined office, management and soccer skills will further develop us as an exceptional community sport organization.”
