“How to Get on a Board of Directors” Event

The Institute of Corporate Directors Maritime Chapter invites you to join them for a session on “How to Get on a Board of Directors” this Thursday March 2nd, 2017 at the Wu Conference Centre.

Registration will take place from 11:30 am to 12 noon. The session will start at noon and run through 2 pm.

 

Serving on a board can be an incredibly rewarding experience for the properly prepared board member. This session will provide information and best practices for securing a position on a board of directors. Our distinguished speakers will offer keen insights on the topic, and discuss the considerations and skills and you need to develop to properly prepare yourself to become a board member.

If you have you been thinking of joining a Board of Directors, you will not want to miss this session!

The Wu Conference Centre is located on the University of New Brunswick campus at 6 Duffie Drive. The session costs $30 for members and $50 for non-members. Fees do not include tax.

 

Speakers include:

Judy Wagner is the Clerk of the Executive Council, Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Public Service. As Deputy Minister of the Executive Council Office, Judy is responsible for Cabinet operations, women’s equality, corporate communications, and policy, as well as corporate oversight of agencies, boards and commissions and executive support to the Legislative Assembly. Judy will address how the Agencies, Boards and Commissions (ABC) operate in New Brunswick and how directors help to support the province through their participation in and ABC.

Jeff Forbes is President and a Managing Partner with Knightsbridge Robertson Surrette. For 20 years, he has played an active role in the firm’s executive search practice, leading game changing search assignments. Jeff sits on the Canadian Cancer Society of Nova Scotia board and the Trade Centre Limited and the new Halifax Convention Centre. He has served on the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Board, the Advisory Board to the Dalhousie School of Medicine and the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. Jeff will speak to the abilities, skills and experience required when they are asked to do a search to fill board member vacancies

Amanda Harpelle is the Executive Director of the unit responsible for agencies, boards and commissions with the Executive Council Office. She has over 20 years of experience in senior policy positions with the Government of New Brunswick including the departments of Education and Early Childhood Development and Executive Council Office. Amanda will share insights on board opportunities and how directors can become more involved in an ABC.
