Please join us in celebrating friendships, memories, culture, history and new adventures with Isabelle Lafargue and Fabiola Martinez on Friday, August 11 5-7 pm. The exhibition is online, and continues until Sunday, September 3, 2017.
Calli Chez-nous Home is a multi-dimensional, interactive, collaborative project between visual artist Fabiola Martinez and porcelain painter Isabelle LaFargue that explores the meaning of home for immigrants living in Canada.
Fabiola’s work employs multi-cultural influences. She uses oil combined with a Cochineal dye (Dactylopius coccus), a pigment produced by a female insect that is found on cacti in South America. Some artworks also incorporate a porcupine quill technique learned from the Mi’kmaq artist Tara Francis which Fabiola uses to explore and understand her past and current cultures.
Using a technique learned in Limoges France, Isabelle uses porcelain and painted architecture elements to share stories and memories and hopes for the future in Canada, her new home. Her work is a journey of life: an immigrant’s experience in Canada.
As part of the exhibition, a “Friendship Table” will be an interactive installation of a family dining experience – a natural place of sharing, where families and friends get to know one another best, brought together by food.
Visitors will be encouraged to add their favourite recipe or memory of getting to know new immigrant friends, writing their experiences on a circular piece of paper reminding us that we are all connected.
Bring your family and friends to meet the artists on Friday, August 11 from 5 – 7 pm. The exhibition continues until September 3. We look forward to seeing you!
