The Royal New Brunswick Regiment’s March of the 104th: 11km March

The Royal New Brunswick Regiment invites members of the public to join soldiers and cadets from their affiliated cadet corps, in an 11km march (walk) via Fredericton’s walking trails, to commemorate the epic eleven hundred kilometre winter march of New Brunswick’s 104th Regiment of Foot during the winter of 1813.

It will be held on Saturday, January 23rd, 2021 from 1 pm to 4 pm.

The 104th Regiment marched 11km from Fredericton to Kingston; this 11km route is a mere one hundredth of the distance they travelled.

Bring your own snowshoes or walk along without!

The start point of the march is on the Green on Fredericton’s riverfront, just west of the 104th Regiment Foot Bridge.

The finish line is at Soldiers’ Square, just off Carleton Street, in Fredericton’s historic Garrison District.

This event is not a race, and marchers are invited to go join or leave the route as they please.

Special recognition of the marchers that complete the 11 km route will take place at the finish line!

The Royal New Brunswick Regiment (the R NB R) traces its heritage back to 1770.

An important part of the Regiment’s history is the story of the 104th Regiment of Foot. ‘

Today, their epic winter march is celebrated as one of the R NB R’s Regimental days, March of the 104th Day, to honour the soldiers of the 104th.
